Scheduled for national roll-out in 2011, the AARTO system will have some dire impact on the trucking industry when demerit points start to count towards driving permit suspension in 2011.
Are you prepared? Train drivers now! Make them aware of all possible violations and
demerit points earned for each. They could be at risk of losing their PrDP’s.
Due to popular demand, we bring you a ‘Quick Guide’ to AARTO violations and demerit points. More information and detail regarding other aspects of AARTO are available on their website: www.aarto.co.za
By promoting discipline, therefore ensuring improved safety for both trucks and cars, we will go a long way to reflecting the trucking sector as a professional, responsible industry. Let’s do it!
Essential FACTS you need to know
The AARTO website: www.aarto.co.za will answer in detail any queries you might have in regard to the following:
Pay my fine
Pay within 32 days and get a 50% discount! After 21 days the total amount for the main charges must be paid. There are several ways of making a payment.
Nominate the driver
Did you receive a ticket although you were not the driver of the vehicle? You may nominate the actual driver who committed the infringement or the person who was in control of the vehicle.
Traffic Charges
Search Schedule 3 of the AARTO Regulations 2008 for charge codes ad descriptions, penalties and their discounts, as well as demerit points.
Review my options
On receiving a ticket (formally called an ‘Infringement Notice’), a Courtesy Letter, an Enforcement Order or a Warrant of Execution, you have certain options available to you under AARTO.
Need to cancel a ticket
Do you believe there are reasonable grounds for canceling your ticket? You may submit a representation (i.e. a sworn statement) indicating why you should not be held liable
Go to Court
In case of an infringement, you may elect to be tried in court before an Enforcement Order is issued. In the case of an offence, you are tried in court by default.
